After a gentle first kilometre, there is a sharp 15% climb up on to Hadrians Wall. However, once you have recovered you will enjoy the fine views to the south and the flattish quiet country roads.
Eventually, you will turn to the north for a long and steady climb over to Bewcastle – remote Reivers country. Barely a car will be seen as you then head toward the Scottish Border at Kershope Forest to enjoy the fun steep winding descent as you ride in and out of Scotland.
When back in Cumbria the roads are leading you for a well-earned break at the well-stocked feedstation.
The final 20 miles of so sweeping through quiet lanes with a few short and steep descents to arrive back at Lanercost for a well deserved brew and probably some more food!
