After the first kilometre, there is a sharp 15% climb up to Hadrians Wall. Once you have recovered you will enjoy the fine views to the south and the flattish winding country roads.
You’ll then turn to the north for a long and steady climb over to Bewcastle – remote Reivers country.
Barely a car will be seen as you then head toward the Scottish Border at Kershope Forest to enjoy the fun steep winding descent as you ride in and out of Scotland.
When back in Cumbria the roads are leading you for a well-earned break at the well-stocked feed station – ready for the 9 mile climb over to Langholm.
It’s worth it though – the views are fantastic and the descent is really fun! Plus while your legs are recovering, you’re quickly back at the feed station again knowing that you only have 20 miles to go back to Lanercost Priory.
